CROSSING BOUNDARIES - Finding the Moment, Dipankar Mukherjee

cSPACE
February 1 - February 27

Crossing Boundaries – Finding the Moment, is a journey towards sharing photographs taken during my travels. Travel involves crossing physical boundaries which in turn allows other boundaries to be crossed through images captured by the camera.

Joy, Hope Struggle, Anxiety, Sadness and other emotions reflected on the images of the human face allow our curiosity to rise.

The past grandeur of cities, desolate streets which were once the arteries of vibrant economies, angst demonstrated on urban walls, sculpture of a woman in chains, all such images were captured as they came. The viewer interprets the images in his or her own way and may start questioning the cause of change, the relevance of messages displayed on the graffiti, and even wonder why we ever needed to put other human beings in chains.

Throughout history photographs have changed our minds and helped shape a better world – maybe only for a short while.

I believe that to bring about an intentional change there has to be a continuous dialogue with viewers. This dialogue gives rise to a better understanding of the world around us. The image of a sad face or an old ruin or a monument could trigger questions around the social, political, economic environment of a place, of an individual, or of a situation which may lead to crossing many boundaries and possibly more questions with more answers. And that is the intent.
